His essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Atlantic, The Huffington Post, Salon, Truthout, the SPLC’s Hatewatch blog, and others.

His forthcoming book, The Politics of Fear: The Peculiar Persistence of American Paranoia, will be published in March of 2024 (Vintage).

A graduate of Kenyon College, he has worked in book publishing for more than forty years. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
