Me on TV, talking nonsense
I never have much sympathy for politicians who get caught saying something offensive and insist that they've been "misquoted" or that their words were "taken out of context." But now that, in a very small way, I've become something of a public figure myself, I have to change my tune.Yesterday I watched this YouTube video from The Sheeplecorporation called "Was H.a.a.r.p. to Blame for Haiti and Chile?" It's the usual nonsense: ominous New Age music, screenshots of HAARP's reported activities on the days of the earthquakes; striking videos of colored lights in the sky over Sichuan Province just before its devastating earthquake struck (as though Earthquake Lights haven't been observed since ancient times--Seneca wrote about them; Arnold Boscowitz's Earthquakes (1885) devotes several chapters to the subject; modern science has studied the phenomena as well). There are distressing scenes of devastation; stock footage of Hugo Chavez giving a speech. And then some idiotic talking head pops up on Russian television, blathering on about Nikola Tesla (he gets a date wrong--Tesla claimed to have invented his earthquake machine at the turn of the last century, not in the 1940s); about a small, man-made earthquake in the Nevada desert; and about American military research into tectonic weaponry. The implication is pretty clear--this stuff is real. But wait a minute! That guy is me. The words are all mine, but they have been artfully edited to make it sound like I am saying precisely the opposite of what I really said! And if you don't believe me, click here to see the uncut interview.I suppose I should accuse the movie-maker of dishonesty, but the truth is, I think they thought they were doing me a favor. True believers hear what they want to hear. They simply took all the stuff I said that supported (or didn't undercut or attack) their point of view--all the good stuff, as they perceived it, the things that are worth listening to--and snipped the rest. Think of all the other people who get quoted in videos like these and try to imagine what might have been edited from their interviews. And the thing is, it doesn't just happen with the Sheeplecorporation. As I'm sure the Sheeplecorporation would be quick to point out, CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, CNN and the rest of the MSM are just as guilty as well. The takeaway? Trust no one. And keep an open mind.
