Hate Loses
Barack Hussein Obama, November 7, 2012:
Despite all the hardship we’ve been through, despite all the frustrations of Washington, I’ve never been more hopeful about our future. I have never been more hopeful about America. And I ask you to sustain that hope. I’m not talking about blind optimism, the kind of hope that just ignores the enormity of the tasks ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path. I’m not talking about the wishful idealism that allows us to just sit on the sidelines or shirk from a fight.I have always believed that hope is that stubborn thing inside us that insists, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us so long as we have the courage to keep reaching, to keep working, to keep fighting.
The haters aren't done--their work is never done--and the premise of The New Hate, that extreme right wing revanchism is a force to be reckoned with, is no less valid. But it is not ascendant, thank goodness, and yesterday its minions lost a huge opportunity to take back ground. As "Snowleopard," an overwrought commenter on Glenn Beck's The Blaze, put it early this morning: "Congradulations communists....Learn the lesson well everyone, Obama will unleash an bloodbath across the nation now, there is nothing left to stop him from doing so save God Almighty. We have crossed the Rubicon and now there is no turning back."As for me, this might be the last time I link to Glenn Beck or even look at his site. I doubt I will ever use Allen West's name in print again either, or Sarah Palin's. As a wise man once said, "Let the dead bury the dead."I have been increasingly turning my attention to a different kind of craziness, and in due course may well begin to write about it. Stay tuned....
