Normalization watch

Why do some in the mainstream media insist on normalizing Trump, even at this late date in his dumpster fire of a presidency and reelection campaign? (Here's CNN's Dana Bash, in her most hopeful mode, telling us that America is seeing and hearing the president that we need.)Because the mainstream media's job is to stake out the boundaries of the consensual middle, which no longer exists. They are having something of an existential crisis. When Trump successfully pulls off one of his "today he became president" stunts they seize on it, because it restores their sense of purpose and relevance.
